BlackRock participates in the sale of $1.5 billion bonds from Telegram
BlackRock, one of the largest Bitcoin holders, reportedly participated in Telegram's bond issuance worth at least $1.5 billion on May 28. The issuance also has support from Mubadala, an Abu Dhabi investment firm. According to The Wall Street Journal, Telegram offers a 5-year bond offering with a yield of 9% and plans to use the proceeds to buy back debt from bonds issued in 2021, maturing in March 2026.
In addition to current investors such as BlackRock and Mubadala, the issuance also attracts new investors, including the U.S. Citadel fund. According to the Financial Times, Telegram's new bonds allow investors to acquire shares in a potential IPO at a 20% discount, similar to previous rounds. This is an effort to refinance the debt from 2021.
