Allianz's attitude has turned 180 degrees, and for the first time it recognizes Bitcoin as a "reliable store of value."

Allianz, the German investment giant managing assets totaling up to 2.5 trillion dollars, publicly acknowledged for the first time in its latest investment report that Bitcoin (BTC) is a "reliable store of value" and positioned it as an important component of modern investment portfolios. This stance contrasts sharply with its policy of explicitly opposing investment in Crypto Assets in 2019, marking a significant turning point in institutional attitudes towards digital assets.

From 'Experimental Agreement' to 'Store of Value'

In a report titled "Bitcoin and Crypto Assets: The Future of Finance," Allianz describes the evolution of Bitcoin as "growing from an experimental protocol to a reliable store of value."

The report points out that Bitcoin's deflationary design, decentralized governance, and low correlation with traditional markets make it an ideal asset for hedging risks and long-term allocation.

Data shows that the correlation between Bitcoin and the S&P 500 is only 0.12, and the correlation with gold is even -0.04, highlighting its value for portfolio diversification.

Institutional Adoption as a Driving Force

Allianz emphasizes that the rapid entry of institutional investors is key to the legalization of Bitcoin.

In the second quarter of 2025, the number of Bitcoin purchased by listed companies has surpassed ETFs for three consecutive quarters, with approximately 131,000 BTC bought in a single quarter.

Emory University in the United States has become the first higher education endowment fund to publicly disclose a substantial investment in Bitcoin, demonstrating that digital assets are permeating the financial operations strategies of higher education.

Federal Reserve Chairman Powell recently referred to Bitcoin as the "digital counterpart of gold," further solidifying its status as a store of value.

Allianz believes that the increase in global regulatory transparency has removed the main barriers to institutional participation, paving the way for more capital to enter.

Mature infrastructure, bridging traditional and crypto finance

The report indicates that regulated crypto exchanges, institutional custody services such as Fidelity Digital Assets, and the spot Bitcoin ETF approved by the US SEC are "bridging the gap between traditional finance and crypto assets."

Allianz describes the rise of Bitcoin as "one of the most profound transformations in modern finance" and predicts that the future tokenization of real-world assets (RWA) and decentralized finance (DeFi) will significantly expand the addressable size of the crypto market.

Long-term Outlook: Permanent Supplement to the Financial System

Allianz clearly stated in its conclusion that unless there is a significant technical flaw or an unforeseen global disaster, Bitcoin will become a permanent complement to the global financial system, rather than a fleeting speculative trend.

The report further points out that digital assets "are not only a complement to the future of global finance, but also its cornerstone."

Conclusion

Allianz's change in attitude not only reflects the rapid increase in institutional acceptance of Bitcoin but also symbolizes the acceleration of Crypto Assets integrating into the mainstream financial system. As the regulatory environment becomes clearer and infrastructure improves, Bitcoin is expected to occupy a core position in more institutional investment portfolios.
