Tether has just announced a partnership with TON Foundation to launch an omnichain version of the gold stablecoin XAUt on The Open Network (TON), aiming to expand multi-chain compatibility for this token.

The new token, named "XAUt0," is built on the Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard of LayerZero, allowing token transfers between blockchains without the need for wrapping or through an intermediary chain.

XAUt — the non-omnichain version — is currently the largest gold stablecoin by market capitalization, reaching more than $832 million according to data from CoinGecko, slightly ahead of Paxos' Pax Gold (PAXG) at $811 million (tính 6) 2. Currently, XAUt only exists on the Ethereum blockchain.

According to Tether's Q1/2025 audit report, XAUt is backed by over 7.7 tons of physical gold, stored in a vault in Switzerland. Each XAUt token corresponds to one troy ounce of actual gold.

XAUt0 may be deployed similarly to USDT0 — the USD stablecoin cross-chain version of Tether on the Optimism Superchain ecosystem, which includes at least eight blockchains. Previously, in April 2024, Tether also deployed USDt on the TON blockchain.
