Bitcoin Options Data: Traders Actively Hedge Against BTC Falling Below $100,000 Risk The Federal Reserve Decision Will Be Key
On June 18, it was reported that the Bitcoin options market showed that traders are hedging the risk of the price falling back to the $100,000 mark as geopolitical and economic uncertainty in global financial markets rises. The put/call volume ratio on crypto derivatives exchanges surged to 2.17 over the past 24 hours, reflecting a strong risk-off bias. There has been a surge in demand for put options (downside protection instruments that give holders the right to sell at a specific price), especially for short-term contracts. Among options expiring on June 20, $100,000 put open interest topped the list, with a put/call ratio of 1.16, highlighting the market's concerns about short-term declines.
Market caution stems from the highly uncertain environment faced by Federal Reserve policymakers—geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and fluctuations in energy prices, compounded by inflation and labor market risks brought about by the Trump administration's tariff policies. As the Fed is expected to maintain interest rates unchanged for the fourth consecutive time later on Wednesday, market attention will turn to its latest forecasts on economic growth, unemployment rates, and interest rates.
"The hawkish signals from the Federal Reserve may boost the US Dollar Index and trigger a test of the psychological level of 100,000," said Javier Rodriguez-Alarcon, Chief Investment Officer of a certain institution, in a research report. "At the same time, the geopolitical situation remains the biggest variable: any credible easing of the situation in the Middle East will act as a catalyst for risk appetite, while a deterioration in the situation may trigger a new round of declines in risk assets."
